Basic Paper Mache Mask-making Workshop

Originally taught as a SUN after-school program for elementary and middle school grades. Students learn basic mask-construction by using paper mache over a cardboard, tape and aluminium foil base, and design their own wearable masks.

Age range: 16 to adult.

Natural Materials Mask-making Workshop

An original technique I developed as part of the Wildland Roots Project, and have been teaching since 2019. It uses a 100% biodegradable "bioplastic" recipe (cornstarch + vegetable glycerin + vinegar) to stiffen and shape sheets of reclaimed burlap over rigid face-forms. We also make paint with natural earth pigments, then embellish the masks with color and natural objects. This class can be taught outside in a natural environment with no risk of contamination to local soil and water, and can even make use of onsite materials such as clay, moss, seed pods and plant fiber.

Age range: 14 to adult.

Age range: K-8 (Students in the K-5 range will need to bring their adult helpers)
Duration: 2 - 3 hours
Suggested class size: Up to 20 families
Cost: Please inquire
